Phone calls with your biographer
Your parent talks to the biographer on their own phone. A short setup and one call from them turn the calls on.
Who this is for
Families who bought Fablr for a parent or grandparent who would rather talk on the phone.
What to do next
- Your parent opens the private Fablr link you sent them, ticks the box, and presses Confirm and continue. Only they can do this, but you can sit with them.
- From their own phone, your parent calls (916) 282-5549.
- They listen to a short message.
- They press 1.
- After that, the biographer calls them at the times you chose.
How you know it worked
If something goes wrong
They haven't finished the short setup. They open their private Fablr link and tick the box, then call again.
We only know the number you saved. Ask them to call from that phone, or email us to change it.
They can just call again.
They press 9 during any call. You can also email us.

To get the phone calls working, your parent does a short setup once, then makes one short phone call to Fablr. After that, the biographer calls them at the times you chose.
- On a phone or computer, they open the private Fablr link you sent them, tick the box, and press Confirm and continue. Only they can do this, but you can sit with them while they do.
- From the phone you saved for them, they call the Fablr number in their instructions email or on the printed card.
- They listen to a short message.
- They press 1.
To help them set it up, send the phone instructions from your Managed Storyteller page, or print a card for their fridge.
Because we never call anyone who hasn't said yes themselves. The biographer is an A.I. voice, not a real person, and calls are recorded, so we only call people who have said yes themselves. A family member can't say yes for them.
So the storyteller calls once from their own phone and presses 1. That one keypress is their OK. It takes about a minute, and they only do it once.
Most often the first call hasn't happened yet. We don't call until the storyteller calls us once and presses 1. Your Managed Storyteller page shows the status: "Waiting for them to call once", "Calls are on", or "Calls are stopped".
- Still waiting? Send the instructions again from your page, or print the card. You can help them dial the number and press 1, then take the phone off speakerphone so they can talk with the biographer in private.
- Told to open the link you sent? They haven't finished the short setup. They open their private Fablr link, tick the box, and press Confirm and continue, then call again and press 1.
- Called from a different phone? We only recognize the number you saved. They need to call from that phone.
- Pressed the wrong key or hung up? Nothing is lost. They just call again and press 1.
- Calls are stopped? Someone pressed 9. They can call again and press 1 to turn calls back on.
- Calls are on but nothing came? We call only at the scheduled times, between 9am and 8pm their time. If a scheduled call is missed, we try again at the next scheduled time.
- Calls are on but the phone never rang? Their phone company may be hiding our calls as spam. Save Fablr's number in their contacts, and if a call blocking app asks, choose Allow.
Yes, as often as you like. On your Managed Storyteller page, press Send the instructions again. We email the steps to the storyteller right away.
You can also press Print the card for a one-page card with large type to put by their phone.
A short, friendly recorded message from Fablr. It says the biographer is a friendly A.I. voice, not a real person, that their talks are recorded and shared with our A.I. service providers so we can write their life story, and asks them to talk in private, not on speakerphone. Then they choose:
- Press 1 to start talking now, and to say yes to calls at the times you picked.
- Press 9 to stop calls from Fablr.
- If they press nothing, nothing changes and we won't call.
When we call them later, they hear a short greeting and press 1 to start.
On your Managed Storyteller page, open Change the number or call times, type the new number, and save. The new number needs its own first call: the storyteller calls once from the new phone and presses 1, then the calls go to that phone.
On your Managed Storyteller page, open Change the number or call times, pick the days and times that suit the storyteller, and save. You can pick up to three calls a week, between 9am and 8pm in their time zone.
The storyteller can press 9 during any call, and the calls stop right away. You can also email support@fablr.ai and we will stop them for you.
Stopping the calls doesn't delete any stories. To start the calls again, the storyteller calls Fablr once from their phone and presses 1.
Yes. Every call says so at the start, and nothing is recorded until the storyteller presses 1 on that call. The biographer is a friendly A.I. voice, not a real person. Our A.I. and voice service providers, including OpenAI, LiveKit and our phone carrier, process the audio so we can write their life story. Storytellers should talk in private, not on speakerphone, so only their own voice is recorded.
The recordings are kept with the biography, where the storyteller and the family member who manages it can listen to them. The stories belong to your family, the same as stories from web or app conversations. See our privacy policy for details.
Nothing extra. Phone conversations use the same talking hours as conversations on the web or in the app. There is no per-minute charge from Fablr.
