Help a non-technical loved one
Help someone begin without taking away their control of the story.
The best help is practical and calm: set up the page, explain the first button, and let the storyteller decide what they want to say.
Who this is for
Family helpers supporting a parent, grandparent, spouse, or friend who is unsure about technology.
Before you start
- Use a familiar device if possible.
- Pick a quiet time and avoid making the first session too long.
- Stay nearby only if the storyteller wants help.
What to do next
- Sign in and open the voice conversation page before handing over the device.
- Point out the Start conversation button and the Need help getting started button.
- Explain that one memory is enough for today.
- Let the storyteller answer in their own words without correcting the story as they speak.
- Stop after a few minutes if they seem tired, then return another day.
What you should see
How you know it worked
The first session is successful if the storyteller understands how to start, records even one memory, and feels comfortable stopping.
If something goes wrong
They are worried they will do it wrong.
Remind them there is no perfect answer and that stories can be edited later.
They do not want help nearby.
Respect that. Leave the page ready and tell them where the Help button is.
