Help someone get started
Use a short first-session checklist when you are helping someone begin.
A short, calm first session is usually better than explaining every feature. Get the page ready, let the storyteller speak, and stop before it becomes tiring.
Who this is for
Family helpers sitting with a storyteller for the first time.
Before you start
- Pick a quiet room.
- Use a charged device with a working microphone.
- Ask the storyteller whether they want you to stay nearby.
What to do next
- Open the voice conversation page and check that the microphone button is visible.
- Show the storyteller how to start and stop.
- Suggest one easy memory, such as a favorite place or a person they remember well.
- Let them answer without correcting names or dates during the recording.
- End the session while it still feels manageable.
What you should see
How you know it worked
The storyteller has completed one comfortable attempt and knows they can return later.
If something goes wrong
The room is too noisy.
Move to a quieter place or use headphones before recording.
The session feels too long.
Stop and come back another day. Short sessions are fine.
